Our trip started when Mas Wisang (who is our driver/friend in Yogyakarta) picked me up from my hotel at 4.15am, then went on to pick Yeni and Nindya up from their house. We left Yogyakarta at about 5am and it took us 2 hours 30 minutes travelling north west to reach Wonosobo - which I have to admit I slept most of the way. When I did wake up we were driving in the clouds of the mountains in Wonosobo. The views were spectacular throughout the whole day, mountains and tea fields fill the landscape of this magical place. The first place we visited was one of Indonesia's many Volcanoes (non active) named Dieng, and for the first time ever I will admit I was cold in Indonesia. Arriving at 7.30am and I was in the clouds and only wearing a t-shirt. It did feel a bit chilly until the sun broke through and we were back to normal Indonesia. We walked around the Volcano where there were stalls selling scarfs, hats and other touristy things. The volcano had a very strong smell of sulphur which to me smelt like eggs. We didn't stay too long here, and moved on to our next destination via a little restaurant for our simple indonesian breakfast of Ayam goreng or tempe goreng.
The second place we visited was a temple named Candi Arjuna and It cost 30,000idr for foreigners and 15,000idr for a local to enter. The grounds of the temple were immaculate with lush green grass and lots of colourful flowers. It was rather crowded when we arrived as we were there at the same time as a school trip. We then proceeded with our Wonosobo tour with a trip to a sulphur lake (Telaga Warna), but couldn't stay too long as it was Friday prayer time so we made our way to the nearest masjid.
After the jummah prayer, we went driving to take photos of the spectacular views that this place has to offer, and also visited some tea plantations before finding a place to have a late lunch and the local drink named Carica (which is made from a local fruit).
